Project breakdown
Post-op lower-limb patients routinely exceed or under-use prescribed weight-bearing limits — causing implant failure, non-union, or prolonged immobilization. Without objective real-time feedback, surgeons cannot remotely monitor or adjust individual recovery protocols, leading to 5–25% reoperation rates depending on fracture type.
Built the patient iOS app and CoreBluetooth integration with Smart Crutch Tips: real-time weight-bearing alerts when patients exceed prescribed limits, gait data and step tracking visualized on-device, and a connected physician dashboard for remote monitoring and personalized protocol adjustment. Protocols are generated from post-op CT-based finite element analysis, not subjective clinical judgment alone.
Clinically validated platform with 3.5× improvement in weight-bearing compliance (73.6% vs 21.1%). FDA-cleared medical device. Excellent Usability (SUS 84.25) and 10/10 patient satisfaction. Backed by peer-reviewed publications and 3 active clinical trials. Enables Remote Therapeutic Monitoring billing for physical therapists.
